The Bond of Trust

Updated: Nov 26, 2025

An essential requirement for your cat’s health and happiness is regular and predictable, loving interaction with you. This is the only way to build and maintain the all-important bond of trust. You cat needs to feel safe and loved, and building this trust requires patience and consistency. Remember, the timing is always up to the cat rather than at your convenience.

Cats who receive personal, loving attention are less likely to develop behavior problems. Studies show that regular, compassionate interaction with your cat can reduce the chances of such problems. Plus, positive time with your cat can boost your own immune system, lower stress, and reduce anxiety, though individual results may vary.

On the other hand, cats that lack regular, compassionate attention often don’t develop deep trust in their human companions. This can lead to anxiety and, over time, behavior problems.

Punishing a cat does not bring the results you want.

Attempting to discipline a cat rarely solves problems and usually makes them worse. Only positive interaction can address unwanted behaviors, which are often caused by a lack of resources needed for normal, social behavior.
